Bòtann - the welly rebooted

About

Join us on a journey to reboot the welly. We have created a rubber boot that will change the way you think about wellies – when you wear them, how you wear them and how you feel in them.

We grew up with wellies - our hometown in Scotland once made the best wellies in the world. Backed by Scotland’s heritage and our own progressive design thinking, we’ve created a unisex boot that is ethically made, practical and stylish. We want to use the success of our business to create jobs in Scotland.

Bòtann boots keep your feet dry even when submerged all the way to the top of the boot.

BOUNDLESS ADVENTURES

No more awkward footwear changes after your dog walk in the countryside, simply clean off your boots with the Bòtann Transition Kit and head off into the city for a different type of adventure.

DURABLE FOOTWEAR

Our aim is to create stylish, protective and ethical rubber boots that people want to wear often, which - through high-quality materials and craftsmanship - last for many years.

PROGRESSIVE DESIGN

Our boots are for style-conscious adventure seekers, who enjoy escaping into nature and/or into the city. They are made from a sustainable source of high-grade rubber, which is naturally waterproof and hard wearing.

 THE BÒTANN TEAM

Bòtann was founded by David Smith, Michael Nicholson and Robert McCaffrey. As we grow, we will expand and diversify our core team

David Smith is deeply involved in Scotland's creative industries, helping to provide business support for those combining their creativity and enterprise. It was David's initial idea and enthusiasm that gave rise to Bòtann.

Michael Nicholson is a creative writer and marketer, who works across a range of industries. Michael's dad worked in Dumfries's rubber factory, relocating to the town to take the job a year before he was born.

Robert McCaffrey is a very talented footwear designer. He spent time honing his craft in Italy, before returning to Scotland and launching the McCaffrey Collection. Robert is the progressive designer behind Bòtann.

A NEW CHAPTER

We’re passionate about continuing Scotland’s legacy and rebooting the welly at the same time - re-defining it for modern living - where adventure comes in many guises. To turn our idea into a reality, we've grown our team by collaborating with talented partners, including working with footwear manufacturer Novesta.

Novesta's story goes back to 1939, when famous shoemaker Jan Antonin Bata opened his new factory in a small town in Slovakia. For Novesta, quality design refers to more than fashion. The company is dedicated to manufacturing footwear according to the highest environmental standards. That’s why it uses materials such as natural rubber - these materials allow it to produce ecological footwear of the highest quality.

We are currently limited to how big we can make our welly - we promise we're not size-ist (our designer Robert is a size 12).  We're working on having larger options, but for now the sizes we offer are above. Please note: sizing is unisex, generous length and regular/narrow width.
